Melanie Bellis
Part of the New Light Prize Exhibition 2020
Melanie Bellis was born and raised in Doncaster. Her work features urban and industrial buildings and structures either under construction or deserted and derelict.
The underlying theme in Melanie's work is change; she's interested in documenting the mood and character of a place at a specific moment in time. She works from observation drawing onsite, then develops her drawings into atmospheric etchings. She produces her etchings in many stages, using a range of techniques to build the image in layers, redrawing, adding and reworking. The process allows her to achieve a final image that has a sense of impact, presence and place.
