Matt Wade
Part of the New Light Prize Exhibition 2020
Matt Wade was born in North Manchester in 1973. Despite a brief stint in art college he remains largely self-taught. Though mainly figurative, his work often explores esoteric themes and he finds it important that it conveys some kind of (often oblique) narrative.
'Although my work tends to err on the realistic side, it is important to me that craft remains apparent. Art to me is a way of getting to the heart of a subject, as a culture we are bombarded with thousands of images daily, and where a photograph might be assimilated within seconds there is something about a good work of art that causes pause and reflection in the viewer, this is where can we find and convey our truths.'
Matt lives and works in North Yorkshire and has exhibited in group exhibitions across the North of England.
