John Whitehill
Part of the New Light Prize Exhibition 2020
John Whitehill was born in Liverpool. He gained an MA in Printmaking at the Chelsea School of Art before qualifying as a teacher at Liverpool Polytechnic. Between 1976 and 2009, John worked as an art teacher in High Schools in North Staffordshire.
Since 2009 John has devoted his time to painting - the overarching theme of his work being the built or managed environment. His paintings depict tabletop constructions of small buildings and landscapes created from card and plaster, together with found objects. They explore an ongoing interest in using the tradition of still life to suggest narrative possibilities to the viewer.
