Glenn Ibbitson
Part of the New Light Prize Exhibition 2020
Glenn Ibbitson originally trained as a fine art painter and graduated to a career as a scenic artist for television, stage and film. This experience provided him with both a versatile skill set and a bank of theatrical images which he has subsequently incorporated into his own art.
Glenn now uses a range of media (painting, printmaking, video, collage, graphic novels) to engage with the issues of narrative in contemporary visual art. However, any message is often obscured; usually embedded as subtext beneath what may at first appear to be a traditional surface construction. For this reason, his art has been compared to a self-assembly furniture kit - don’t expect to find all the components or an instruction manual in the box.
