Fletcher Prentice
Fletcher Prentice's work is a celebration of the natural world and also a celebration of paint itself. Nature's exuberant characters and colours, as seen in exotic bird-life, inspire him. More recently his inspiration has come from a little closer to home - he has been drawn to the domestic beauty of the birds and plants in his own rural garden. Fletcher finds paint fascinating through its textures, its colours, its freedom and looseness. His work explores the 'object' of paint as much as it explores the 'subject' of nature.
"My work is a constant balance. On the one hand, my fascination with the object - using paint and enjoying the qualities of paint, breaking down and semi-abstracting the subject matter and surface. On the other hand, my desire to retain and capture the natural beauty of the subject, whether the human figure, an animal or a single bird."
