Dawn Hajittofi
Dawn studied ceramics at Havering college and UCA Farnham becoming a full time maker in 2020.
From her studio in the Surrey hills, Dawn makes thrown and altered vessels from white earthenware clay to represent a ‘life story’. Dawn adds marks and indentations to signify unforgotten events and paints the surface with abstract marks using coloured slips, oxides and underglazes before randomly applying glaze.
Influenced by her previous work in pastoral care and counselling each process symbolises the significant events we encounter and acknowledges the lasting impact they can have. Dawn adds gilt to the surface to reference ‘Kintsugi’ the Japanese art of restoring a broken vessel with gold.
