This workshop will take you through how to make your own paper pumpkins. They make perfect decorations this time of year to truly get you into the seasonal spirit, whether you’re staying cosy under candlelight, watching Gilmore Girls, or hiding under your blanket from the suspense of a horror film. You’ll be provided with enough materials to make 3 pumpkins, with a variety of sizes and colour choices.

Lucy is an independent bookbinder and paper artist based in Newcastle. Originally from Durham, she discovered her love of bookbinding while studying Illustration at UAL and has since brought her craft back to the Northeast.

Her interest in working with paper comes from its tactility. It provides a sensory experience that digitally saturated lifestyles lack and allows you to feel grounded in your physical space, a hugely beneficial element in mindfulness practices. a

Poetry Bites is a series of friendly and welcoming poetry workshops, accommodating all levels of writing experience. There will be emphasis on generating ideas, with chances to explore the gallery for a source of inspiration. Workshop activities will generally relate to poetry, but writers of all kinds are accommodated.

This month’s workshop will be a crossover with the themes of Spooky Poem Month, an annual event featuring live poetry and online writing prompts, all with a horror-inspired twist!

Exercises will be ideal for both genre veterans and for writers who have never explored horror before, or would like to try their hand at applying the supernatural as a lens through which to engage with other topics and themes.
